Below is our itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative who will transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha.
Take some time to relax and prepare for the exciting safari ahead. You can explore the vibrant city, visit local markets, or simply rest and rejuvenate for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart from Arusha and head towards Tarangire National Park. Known for its diverse landscapes and large elephant herds, Tarangire offers a unique safari experience.
Explore the park and spot various wildlife species including lions, zebras, giraffes, and numerous bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the wilderness before continuing your game drive in the afternoon.
Later in the day, transfer to your accommodation near the park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Tarangire to Serengeti
Today, embark on a journey to the iconic Serengeti National Park. After an early breakfast, drive through the stunning landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a chance to spot wildlife along the way.
Upon reaching Serengeti, enjoy a game drive en route to your camp or lodge. Serengeti is famous for its annual wildebeest migration, vast plains, and abundant wildlife. Explore the park and witness the untamed beauty of Africa.
In the evening, relax and enjoy dinner at your accommodation within the Serengeti.
Day 4: Full Day in Serengeti
Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent Serengeti National Park. Set out on game drives to witness the incredible wildlife that inhabits the area. Encounter herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, and many other fascinating creatures.
Keep your camera ready to capture the unforgettable moments. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the wilderness and continue your exploration of the park until the evening. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, depart from the Serengeti and head towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to a unique ecosystem teeming with wildlife.
Enjoy a full day game drive within the crater, spotting various animal species including the endangered black rhino, lions, hyenas, and a multitude of bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the crater. In the late afternoon, ascend from the crater and transfer to your accommodation on the rim for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Ngorongoro to Arusha to Zanzibar
Today, bid farewell to the wildlife-rich landscapes and depart from Ngorongoro towards Arusha. Enjoy a leisurely drive back, relishing the stunning views of the Tanzanian countryside.
Upon reaching Arusha, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival in Zanzibar, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your beachfront accommodation.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the serene atmosphere and beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.
Day 7: Zanzibar Beach Relaxation
Indulge in a day of relaxation and exploration on the pristine beaches of Zanzibar. Enjoy the turquoise waters, soak up the sun, or engage in various water sports and activities such as snorkeling, diving, or a boat trip to nearby islands.
Immerse yourself in the tropical paradise of Zanzibar and unwind to the soothing sound of the ocean waves.
Day 8: Zanzibar – Visit Stone Town
Today, you will embark on a cultural exploration of Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant atmosphere as you stroll through the narrow streets filled with intricately carved wooden doors, bustling markets, and ancient architecture influenced by various cultures.
Visit iconic landmarks such as the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the Sultan’s Palace. Dive into the island’s spice trade heritage with a visit to a spice plantation, where you can learn about and sample exotic spices and tropical fruits.
After a day of exploration, return to your accommodation and relax.
Day 9: Zanzibar – Exploring Various Places
Today is yours to discover the diverse attractions of Zanzibar. You can choose to embark on a dhow cruise to the nearby Prison Island, where you can encounter giant tortoises and enjoy snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters.
Alternatively, you can opt for a visit to Jozani Forest, home to the endemic and endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkeys. Take a guided tour through the forest, spotting wildlife and learning about the unique flora and fauna.

Mara Gates provided us with an experience of a lifetime. The places that we visited were breathtakingly beautiful, the variety and number of animals and flora were spectacular. And our guide, Ken, was so courteous, knowledgeable, and organized. The depth of his knowledge and explanations of animal behavior and the local environments was like traveling with a patient university professor of zoology, ornithology, and botany. We had a wonderful 9-day safari with Mara Gates. My husband found their website and came up with a custom-made itinerary, that Agnes gladly accommodated and made it even better. Communicating with them was so easy because Agnes responds promptly. As soon as their office is open in Nairobi, they respond to our email inquiries quickly. We also met her at our hotel and we discussed the itinerary and she gave us pointers on what to expect during our trip. On the morning of the beginning of our safari, Ken our guide and driver promptly arrived and packed our van. Ken is a very intelligent, knowledgeable, wonderful person who gave us quick lessons on the different types of animals, birds, reptiles and also gave us lessons on their behavior. We would really like to go back and do another safari with Mara Gates, and most especially with Ken. Thank you so much for a wonderful trip!

our family booked a hot air balloon trip with Mara Gates. A very good driver collected us from our camp in a smart closed body Toyota Landcruiser. Our camp was nearly an hours drive from the balloon site so it was a good commitment. Hot air ballooning is a must for visitors to the Mara. It's expensive but well worth it. We had a very competent pilot from Switzerland. The open air breakfast on the plains after we landed was also excellent. Then the same driver took us back home again. A great day out. We booked our African Safari trip with Mara Gates Safaris in May, '19. This was one of the best trips we have made so far and thanks to Mara Gates Safaris, it became the most memorable one. We received all the help we needed starting from the booking until the end of the trip. Special thanks to our guide Ken who enlightened us so much about the nature and behavior of the animals in the wild and took us to some of the best viewing spots over the different parks.

I had a wonderful experience with Mara Gates Safaris. I wanted a 5 day trip to the coastal town and they got me a very good safari. They are highly organized, excellent communicators- never once did I not get my queries answered and very accommodating. Everything went exactly as scheduled and discussed. Ms. Agnes is easy to work with and a professional in her line of duty. First time with Mara Gates and I will definitely be using them.
