Cabinet’s approval of the recommendations to relax South Africa’s new visa regulations have been widely applauded by industry role players.

Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy said in a statement the tourism industry will benefit from the approved recommendations that travel agents be allowed to make visa applications on behalf of clients and that the birth certificate requirement for travelling minors would no longer include the word “abridged”.

Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom on Friday announced that cabinet has approved recommendations from the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) tasked with reviewing South Africa’s immigration regulations. The IMC recommended that:

Press Release: President Jacob Zuma will on Sunday, 1 November 2015 officially open the Joint Operation Centre (JoC), which aims to enhance the fight against rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park.

The event will take place during the Anti-Rhino Poaching Awareness Day in the Kruger National Park, Skukuza, Mpumalanga Province.

The awareness campaign will mobilise all stakeholders and all South Africans to enhance the efforts in the fight against rhino poaching which has been pronounced as a National Security threat since 2011.

The JoC has been established to co-ordinate operations against rhino poaching by all affected government institutions including the Department of Environmental Affairs, South African National Defence Force, South African Police Service, South African National Parks and provincial conservation agencies.

In a move that will be a sigh of relief to tourism in Kenya, The British government decided to lift the travel ban that was imposed against Kenya. Specifically, the area that is now considered safe are the the coastal areas in Malindi near the Galana River.

In an updated travel advisory, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Thursday said the 15km width of coastal strip from Galana to Watamu in Kilifi County is no longer high-risk and British nationals are free to tour it.
